So I’ve really got stuck into this pattern – As I’m knitting it with each new row I can feel how warm and snuggly it’s going to be and it gets me really excited.
I’ve also learnt a new technique – Which is the Loop Stitch;
To work the loop stitch: Loop stitch is always on a knit row – I slip my first stitch just to leave a nice edge but this isn’t compulsory, then knit your first stitch of the new row.
- Knit into the next stitch, but do not allow the stitch to fall off the needle, bring the working yarn to the front between the two needles… Place your thumb on the working yarn, and wrap the yarn around and over the top of your thumb, and back between the two needles. [ For this pattern I double wrapped my thumb as working with chunky knits and needles sometimes the yarn can tug and you lose the length. ]
- Keeping the yarn wrapped around your thumb, knit into the same stitch again, allow this stitch to fall off the needle, and the loop to fall off your thumb. You now have two new stitches and a loop on the right hand needle.
- Insert the left needle into the front of the two stitches on the right needle, and knit together. OR you can bring your first stitch over the second – [ which is what I did ] Then knit your next stitch – * Rep knit then loop to the end of the row.
- The second row of the loop stitch is to purl the whole row – It’s not necessary, but I felt it was a good stable securement of my loops.
It’s a great stitch to do with a fantastic look! I feel also if you have made a whoopsie, it’s easy to hide if you have large rows of loops!
It’s really making my blanket come together from the pattern, and it was pretty fun doing the loop rows. It’s one of those stitches that actually makes you think for once, making sure you’ve carried out the steps as you should otherwise you’re in a bit of a mess.
Aside from purling rows and knitting rows alternatively to give a 3-row pattern, it’s been a good break from the norm – you can find the pattern I’m knitting in the external link below, along with 15% off your first order!
